Ayurveda means the knowledge of life. It is one of the world’s oldest body healing sciences and remains one of India’s traditional health care sciences. Ayurvedic treatment with food consolidates diet, exercise, and the way of life. Talking about food, Ayurveda perceives six tastes – sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy, and astringent. Every one of these tastes plays an important role in our bodies, minds, and spirits.
Ayurvedic medicine is controversial and some researchers recommend to talk with a doctor before using Ayurvedic products, otherwise, there are some foods that support a healthy body, stimulate its recovery and even strict Ayurveda critics will agree on benefits of this food.
Lemons are very important components in the Ayurvedic system. Traditionally they used to balance the nervous system, disinfect, clean the body, refresh the air in your home. Protects against bad mood, reduces depression, mistrust, irrational thinking, apathy. Lemons can be used against acne, bumps, oily, hardened skin, and bee bites. Stimulates cardiac function, lowers the temperature. Please note, lemons are highly phototoxic.
As we all know, we need to drink enough water to stay our bodies well hydrated. Water brings nourishing and cooling effects and is associated with Moon energy. According to Ayurvedic doctrines we need to drink half a cup of water every hour. Water keeps your digestive system working properly. Drinking lots of warm water throughout the day helps to rehydrate our system and removes toxins from the body. Avoid drinking cold water, especially before, during and after meals. Ayurveda believes that it slows digestion and blood flow in the stomach.
Ghee is ideal cooking oil. It is easily digested and is an excellent medium for transporting nutrients to your body’s tissues, so it helps to improve absorption. It also improves memory and makes the body flexible.
Ayurveda uses coconut oil everywhere – for food, massage, and for mouth wash in the morning. Take a spoon of coconut oil and rinse your mouth for 5 to 15 minutes every morning. It removes toxins. Oil used for massages improves lymph circulation, adds moisture and softness to the skin.
Dates and Figs
Dried fruit such as figs, dates are a good option for breakfast and during the cold season. Dates and figs are a natural tonic for energy and vitality. They are rich in fiber and vitamins. They are rich in amino acids and therefore boost sexual energy.
Almonds is great Ayurvedic food. They are rich in natural oils and fatty acids. Eat several almonds daily, you will feel calmer and will improve your ability to think a little clearer. Almond milk maintains intelligence, memory, helps recover energy and strength. It is recommended to peel almonds because their skins are toxic.
Ginger is universal medicine when we talk about health benefits. It cleans out our system and promotes good digestion. To get the best of it, add a few slices of fresh ginger with lemon juice and salt into your water and drink one and a half hour before a meal.
Cumin Seeds are widely used in Ayurveda medicine. Cumin is probably the strongest digestive tonic compared to other spices. It cools the digestive system while improving digestion. Cumin promotes the growth of good microbes and gastrointestinal detoxification. To remove toxins, drink warm water mixed with a bit of powdered cumin and ginger. Cumin Seeds also increase breast milk.
Chia seeds are beneficial for digestion, heart, metabolism, bones, muscles, teeth and skin. They’re loaded with fiber, protein, and omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acids improve skin health and promote hair growth.
Green, Leafy Vegetables
Green Leafy Vegetables such as spinach, kale, sorrel, bok choy greens, turnip greens provide many health benefits. These vegetables maintain strong teeth and bones, nervous system and secretion of certain hormones. They help to hydrate our bodies. Ayurveda medicine recommends eating some leafy greens each day.
Ayurveda teaches us, that our bodies know how to process the foods that are closest to nature. That’s why it’s so important, whenever possible, to avoid genetically-modified, synthetic ingredients.
